Odstock Parish Council

at Nunton Fête on 14th July 2001

NEW PLAYGROUND - NUNTON FOOTBALL FIELD
(Responses required prior to the 11 December 2001 OPC meeting)

INTRODUCTION

The Parish Council and Fête Committee have for several years wanted to provide a playground in Nunton.

It has been decided that the Parish Council will take over the lease for Nunton football field and the pavilion.

A large sum of money will be available shortly from the developers building new houses on Nunton Dairy, and other funds will be available.

The new playground will be in a corner of Nunton football field, the exact location being decided after public consultation, and a special Parish Council meeting in the Radnor Hall.

TIMESCALE

It is intended that by November, after public consultation and debates a planning application can be made.

The playground should be complete and in operation before Fête 2002 in early July next year.

FUNDING

Under planning rules developers have to enter in a Section 106 agreement that requires them to pay monies towards projects that benefit the local community.

The Nunton Dairy housing development should make in excess of £10,000.00 available for projects in Nunton.

Monies are also available from other smaller housing projects.

The Fête Committee have reserved several thousand pounds to contribute towards the new Nunton playground.

The Parish Council hope to secure further funding from other sources.

A playground similar to those in the parks in Salisbury cost in excess of £15,000.00, you don't get much for your money when purchasing properly designed approved equipment that meets insurance requirements.

CONSIDERATIONS

The play area must be clearly visible to reduce the risk of vandalism and unwanted adult attention, this will require hedges to be removed which will open up the field.

Diagram of Nunton FieldWould an adjacent car park be beneficial? this would require a proper access with visibility splays, again requiring the removal of hedges.

What age group should we cater for? equipment is generally designed for the following age groups.
Toddlers - 0 to 6years
Juniors - 6 to 14 years
Senior - 14 plus years

Should we try and combine say toddlers and juniors?

What are the insurance implications if we don't purchase factory produced equipment?

What are the insurance implications generally?

What are the planning requirements?

What do the Highway Authorities require?

What do the members of the community want?

What can we do for about £15,000.00?
